Experience Gained
Designing for a domain I had to learn from scratch. Expert and user research built enough fluency in ESG and Scope 3 frameworks to make structural decisions with confidence, rather than deferring every judgment call to the domain experts. Learned to work in rapid cycles with product, engineering, and those experts at the same table, and to hold a hierarchy steady when the underlying data is ambiguous and multi-layered.
Intro

The Mission
Make Scope 3 emissions understandable and actionable.
The mission was to make Scope 3 emissions understandable and actionable, transforming complex datasets into clear insights that help organizations identify hotspots and prioritize action.
Pain Points
Fragmented and confusing data
Lack of clarity for decision-making
Scope 3 emissions data spans the full value chain, creating complex, inconsistent datasets. Teams needed to quickly surface hotspots and trends and move from high-level views to deeper analysis to prioritize action.

The Solution
Clarity for All Users.
I approached the platform as a first-time learner, treating my own confusion as the clearest signal of where the design was failing. Clear layouts and legible visuals over technical completeness, so complex data became something users could read and act on.

Research
Building on Industry Knowledge.
I researched how organizations measure and report Scope 3 emissions, working with experts and users to surface the challenges and insights that drive real reduction decisions.

User Flow
Leading Users Along the Clearest Path.
Mapping user flows clarified intent, surfaced edge cases, and confirmed the design was solving the right problems before any visual decisions were made.

Mapping It Out
Structuring Complexity for Effortless Navigation.
Information architecture organized complex emissions data into clear, navigable structures, letting users move between high-level overviews and detailed breakdowns without losing their place.

Sketching
Rapid Exploration Through Sketching.
Sketching let me explore ways to visualize complex emissions data quickly, clarifying structure, flow, and intent before anything reached a digital prototype.

Visualizing
Establishing Hierarchy & Navigation.
Wireframing and site mapping translated user flows into a clear structure, establishing hierarchy and navigation before any visual design was applied.

Iterating
Design Iteration & Refinement.
I iterated through rapid prototyping with product, engineering, and domain experts, using their feedback to refine layouts, interactions, and visualizations until the emissions data was legible enough to act on.

Final Designs
Delivering a Clearer Data Experience.
The final designs turned complex Scope 3 emissions data into a clear, structured experience, using thoughtful layouts, intuitive navigation, and focused visualizations to help users quickly understand hotspots, trends, and drivers.

Results
Driving an Impact.
After launch, the platform gave companies a clear, structured way to measure and understand Scope 3 emissions. During onboarding, 85% of clients felt more confident identifying hotspots and 70% reported cutting analysis time by at least half, giving teams a centralized system to track emissions and plan meaningful reductions.
